Napier turned on a stunning winter’s day as more than 110 members, sponsors and industry partners gathered for Groundspread NZ’s annual Members’ Day & Awards Gala.
With the theme “Riding the Wave of Success”, the day brought the industry together to share ideas, celebrate success and explore the opportunities ahead. From practical business advice and industry updates to reconnecting with colleagues and recognising excellence, Members’ Day once again highlighted the strength of New Zealand’s groundspread community.
Simon Pedersen officially welcomed attendees before keynote speaker David Todd “Toddy Talks” challenged members to think about what drives a successful business. Drawing on practical examples and personal experience, Toddy explored five key drivers of success: setting clear goals, building effective systems, investing in people, embracing hard work while making it enjoyable, and recognising achievements. His interactive presentation encouraged members to reflect on their own businesses and left everyone with practical ideas they could take home.
Following Toddy’s presentation, members and National Council came together for an open discussion on the Association’s financial performance, the future of Spreadmark, and the proposed Licensing Agreement with the Fertiliser Quality Council. The session sparked plenty of questions, conversation and ideas, setting the scene for the Annual General Meeting later in the day.
The afternoon featured a range of presentations designed to support members both on and off the truck.
Allister Holmes shared an update on the Sustainable Food & Fibre Futures (SFFF) project, highlighting the progress made so far and outlining the next steps as research continues to improve nutrient application practices.
Lawrence Field, a Chartered Accountant and well-known rural business facilitator, delivered an engaging workshop on understanding business financials. Drawing on decades of experience working alongside farmers and rural contractors, Lawrence broke down financial statements, costing and pricing into practical concepts, helping members better understand the numbers behind their businesses and make more informed financial decisions.
The final presentation of the day saw Mike White introduce HawkEye Pro, demonstrating how biological science and precision technology are being combined to improve fertiliser application accuracy and deliver better outcomes for farmers and contractors alike.
Throughout the day, members had plenty of opportunities to visit the trade display area, catch up with sponsors and exhibitors, and learn about the latest products, technology and services supporting the groundspread industry. These informal conversations remain one of the most valuable aspects of Members’ Day, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen relationships and discover new innovations.
The Annual General Meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on another productive year for the Association, review the year’s business and help shape Groundspread NZ’s future direction.
A highlight of the AGM was the presentation of Life Membership to Brent Scully, recognising his outstanding service and long-standing contribution to both Groundspread NZ and the wider groundspread industry.
The evening concluded with the 8th Annual Awards Gala, celebrating individuals whose dedication, innovation and leadership continue to raise the standard across New Zealand’s groundspread industry.
Congratulations to our 2026 award recipients:
The quality of nominations once again reflected the depth of talent across the industry. While only a handful of winners could be recognised on the night, every finalist demonstrated the professionalism, commitment and innovation that continue to strengthen groundspreading in New Zealand.
Groundspread NZ sincerely thanks the Central Districts Branch, our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and volunteers for delivering another successful Members’ Day & Awards Gala.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who travelled to Napier. Events like these are an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, share knowledge, celebrate achievements and continue building a strong future for our industry.
We look forward to seeing you again in 2027.
