Precision agriculture continues to revolutionise farming, with ongoing research playing a crucial role in optimising fertiliser application.

A recent discussion with Allister Holmes, Precision Agricultural Agronomist at Lincoln Agritech, shed light on the advancements, challenges, and future of fertiliser spreading technology.

Holmes, who has been in the role for 4.5 years, was interviewed in Oamaru on 12th February 2025 during the final stage of spreader testing for the project titled “Reducing off-target fertiliser application and increasing crop performance by improving blended fertiliser spread uniformity.”

This project, which began in early 2022, has been running for over three years, involving extensive field trials, data collection, and stakeholder collaboration to develop best practices for fertiliser spreading.
